What is Survive the Night?

Survive the Night is a non-profit group whose focus is on providing essential items for a one night stay in emergency care.  This organization has been created to help children in most likely one of the scariest, unsettling events of their lives.

Why Survive the Night?

I have had the opportunity to work with kids in the CPS system in Seattle, WA as a teacher. These children are amazing no matter what life serves them. Even through some horrible events, my students always still managed to smile and show joy over the simplest things. These little lives are very special and all we want to do is protect them, however, sometimes it is out of our hands as to what happens. For this reasoning, I brought an idea of a zip-lock bag, for easy storage, full of essential one night items to a couple of my friends. They both agreed this would be a beneficial service and together we decided to form Survive the Night.

Who will we serve?

Our main focus is to provide these bags to children who have been taken into emergency care, for any reason. We would like to provide bags to multiple agencies, like elementary schools, CPS, firefighters, police stations, etc. Our reasoning for this is that we feel it is necessary for a child to receive a bag from someone they know already or have been taught to trust. A child may not feel comfortable receiving and using the items in our bags if they are given to them through a stranger.

When will we be giving bags?

Our plan is to be constantly re-distributing bags to these agencies on a need basis. We would like to start distributing them as soon as possible.
